Steenberg Estate is one of the Cape’s first wine farms, established as far back as 1682. Along the Constantia Wine Route, just a 20 minute drive from the city, you can escape the hustle and bustle of town and relax on the gorgeous grounds, sipping on their world class wine and tucking into fresh, flavoursome fare.

The farm boasts a number of attractions, including the 5-Star Steenberg Hotel and Spa, award-winning cuisine at Catharina’s and Bistro Sixteen82, as well as a stylish open-plan tasting room, cellar tours and undulating vineyards.

It was a girls’ day out exploring the Constantia Valley, and we made Steenberg the first of our stops…

Named after the year in which Steenberg Estate was founded, Bistro Sixteen82 first opened its doors in 2009, and has been the farm’s tapas and bistro-style darling since. Situated adjacent to the winery, it’s a chic and elegant space that welcomes visitors in, and encourages ultimate comfort and relaxation.

Enjoy a glass of the estate’s famous Sauvignon Blanc bubbles, with food prepared by the warm and welcoming Executive Chef, Kerry Kilpin. She loves to create food that is seasonal, flavourful and bursts with freshness.

With summer on its way, sit on the terrace overlooking the manicured lawns and fountain, sipping a glass of bubbles with the girls. Their noteworthy Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc is made to be fun, fruity and fresh. The nose bursts with aromas of passion fruit, litchi and guava. The palate is fresh and fizzy with hints of pineapple and passion fruit and a long lingering flavour – perfect for a hot summer’s day.

Add a plate of cheese and charcuterie, fresh salads or a perfectly cooked main and you may just be inclined to forego the rest of the wine route and remain right where you are. Forever.

Note: Tapas is only served from 5 pm at the Bistro, and bookings are recommended (i.e mandatory).
